Biography

Dr. Amy Garcia works for Cerner Corporation, specializing in research on the economic value of nursing. Amy served as Director and Chief Nursing Officer, helping clients with scheduling, staffing, patient acuity and throughput. Previously, Amy served as the Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Programs Officer for the American Nurses Association. She served as a key member of the executive team, and was responsible for programs, policy, advocacy, ethics and quality, including the NDNQI. She worked closely with specialty nursing organizations and advancing issues across associations, government and non-governmental organizations. Amy served as the technical writer for the ANA’s “Safe Patient Handling and Mobility: Interprofessional National Standards Across the Care Continuum.” Amy also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of School Nurses. Her work at NASN included policy, advocacy, programs and research support for children’s health and the profession of school nursing. Amy has experience in hospital administration, risk management, small business ownership, legislative affairs and direct patient care. She holds a Bachelors and Masters in Nursing from The Wichita State University and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from American Sentinel University. She is certified in executive nursing practice by the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
