Biography
Dr. Underwood honorably served in the United States Air Force as a healthcare management enlistee. She has now been a nurse generalist for 17 years with diverse experience in direct patient care, telehealth, population health, research-practice gaps, and education. Dr. Underwood’s most recent field experience was a nurse consultant for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Corporate Nursing Office. She conducted a performance gap of system-level shared governance practices for the VA’s National Nurse Executive Council: impacting strategic policies for over 92,000 VA nurses and the health outcomes of 8.9 million veterans. The descriptive research findings are published in a peer-reviewed journal. As online adjunct and part-time faculty for multiple universities, she now teaches undergraduate and graduate-level nursing students and builds upon organizational practices as a member of nursing curriculum committees. Dr. Underwood is a strong advocate of integrating best practices in the virtual learning space to meet individual wellness needs. Her professional philosophy guides her work: to be a responsible steward and to provide culturally-congruent care via research, service, and education to achieve organizational learning.
