Biography

Dr. Joseann DeWitt began her nursing career in 1988 with an Associate Degree in Nursing, followed by a BSN from Northwestern State University, MSN from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and a PhD in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University. Her dissertation topic was Interprofessional Education and Collaboration. Dr. DeWitt is a full time Associate Professor of Nursing at American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Post University, serves as a DNP Project Chairperson and teaches N700, N740, N761 and N770, depending on the term. She is also the Program Lead for the MSN Case Management Track. Dr. DeWitt is actively involved in research with several other colleges of nursing and universities utilizing Sentinel City/Sentinel World/Sentinel Town and looks forward to sharing the research results. She has several manuscripts in the works for publication and has been accepted to present research at the International Conferences on Nursing and the Nursing World Congress for Research in Spain, Australia, Germany, and the Orient in 2018. She has been previously published in numerous textbooks and served as Consulting Editor and contributing author for Pediatric Nursing: Partnering with Children and Their Families 1st edition. Prentice-Hall; 2006. Dr. DeWitt’s clinical background is adult critical care, adult coronary care (post hearts), adult emergency, pediatric critical care, pediatric emergency, and NICU. She holds several professional members and serves actively in those organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau International. Interests outside of nursing and teaching include traveling the world, writing fiction stories, and spending quality time with friends and family. Dr. DeWitt truly loves teaching and promoting the profession of nursing and has been an educator in higher education for the past 16 years while continuing to work at the bedside patients. Her personal experience with online learning at the graduate level provides Dr. DeWitt with a unique insight to the benefits and challenges graduate students may experience. The foundation of her teaching philosophy is based on the belief that students deserve educators that are committed, knowledgeable, understanding, willing to help each individual student achieve their fullest potential, and strive to promote a positive learning environment.
