Biography

Dr. Shawn Buhrow began her nursing career in 1991 with a Registered Nursing degree from Allen School of Nursing, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Allen College in 2008, she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2011 from Allen College, and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree from American Sentinel University in 2018. Dr. Buhrow’s capstone project topic was on Incivility in Nursing Education. Dr. Buhrow is a full-time Assistant Professor of Nursing for American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Post University. Dr. Buhrow’s clinical background includes orthopedics, ambulatory surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology. She has been in education since 2010 and has taught Leadership, Management, Issues and Trends, Nursing Foundations, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Physical Health Assessment, as well as worked in the laboratory and clinical arenas. She holds several professional nursing memberships, including Sigma Theta Tau. Interests outside of nursing and education include reading, the outdoors, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Buhrow has a love for teaching and strives to put student’s success as one of her personal goals. The foundation of her nursing and teaching philosophy is based on empathy, professional role modeling, and striving to guide the student along their educational journey! Dr. Buhrow feels her love for learning keeps her up to date and passionate about long life learning!
