Biography

Dr. Brenda Helmer, DNP, MSN, RN, PHCNS-BC is an Associate Professor of Nursing at American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University. Previously, she served as an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Oklahoma, where she taught community clinical, health assessment, research, and human experience in health and common illness courses for traditional, accelerated, & degree completion undergraduate students. She has also served as the nursing program chair and nursing faculty member at National American University and Tabor College—Adult & Graduate Studies. She began her teaching career in nursing at an Associate Degree program teaching Leadership in a community college in Kansas. Dr. Helmer has a variety of other professional experience, including serving as a school nurse for 10 years, working in home health care for 12 years, and working as an RN in pediatrics and medical/surgical nursing. She is a member of numerous professional associations, including Sigma Theta Tau, the American Nurses Association, the School Nurse Organization of Oklahoma, and the National School Nurses Association.
